AFDA Durban alumna and television writing lecturer, Shivana Naidoo, picked up two awards at the WGSA Muse Awards which took place over the last weekend. Shivana won the Best Short Film Screenplay and Paul Ian Johnson Award for Best Emerging Writer awards.

The primary objective of The WGSA Muse Awards is to recognise and reward outstanding artistic achievement in the film, television and entertainment industry by members of The Writers’ Guild of South Africa.

These awards are for South African performance writers bestowed by their peers. They shine the spotlight on and recognise the contribution made by the often faceless and unappreciated creators and originators of entertainment content.

The Writers’ Guild of South Africa is the only professional association in South Africa with a mandate to protect, empower and develop performance writers in the local film, television, radio, stage, animation and new media (internet – mobile and digital distribution, and gaming) industries.

The WGSA is a registered Non-Profit Organisation (NPO) and a Public Benefit Organisation (PBO) which is solely dependent on fundraising. Its mandate is governed by a constitution and a council. All activities are executed by volunteer council members and a part-time Executive Officer.
