SOUND DESIGNER BASIAMI SEGOLA’S CAREER SPEAKS VOLUMES 
 
AFDA alumna and SAFTA Golden Horn award winner, Basiami Segola, has been mastering her craft as a sound mixer and designer since graduating from AFDA with an honours degree in Motion Picture Medium in 2003.
 
Her career started in television, working on acclaimed television series, “Homecoming”, after which she worked on several dramas for the SABC including “Gaz’lam”, “Soul City Season 12” and Skeem Saam Seasons 1-3.
 
She then turned to feature films and contributed her skill set on a host feature films including the critically acclaimed “Hear Me Move”, earning her a SAFTA for Best Sound Design, “Roepman”, “Vergeet My Nie” and “Wolwedans in die Skemer”. She did the sound on the South African box office record-breaking films “Pad Na Jou Hart” and “Ballade vir ’n Enkeling” as well as on the multi award winning film “Noem My Skollie”, for which she nominated for a SAFTA for Best Sound Design.
 
She also worked as sound recorder for the documentary unit on international hit film “District 9”. Basiami took to sound mixing and design on several documentaries, which include “Giant Steps”, and “Bag on my Back: Return to Zimbabwe”.
 
Adding to her filmography, she was the sound recorder, sound designer and final mixer on the short film “Child”, which competed in the 48 Hour Film Project. The film was an official selection at Taos Shortz Film Fest 2012 in New Mexico, USA and was then shortlisted as one of the official selections to screen at the Cannes Court Metrage in 2012 in Cannes, France.
 
Other projects that Basiami has worked on include a 13-part biographical-art documentary series called “A Fine Line”, as well as a series of radio and television commercials for Standard Bank and TVCs for MTN Zambia, Nando’s, Cell C and KFC. Her most recent work was on the Netflix series “Queen Sono”, on which she is credited as the sound designer on all six episodes.
