It is with profound sadness and shock that we learned of the passing of Bheki Hlatshwayo on Tuesday 31 June 2020. Bheki,  a B.MUS (Hons) graduate of WITS University, was appointed as Music Lecturer to the Music Performance department in the School of Live Performance, AFDA Johannesburg campus, in May 2019. An established musician in his own right he brought his considerable academic, intellectual, artistic and musical acumen to bear in his short time with the department. His particular approach is self-evident in the quality of musicianship his students exhibited in the performance, instrumental, vocal & chorale ensemble work produced under his guidance and direction. It is often said, in similar words, that we don’t recognise and value that which we have in our midst until it is lost or gone. So it is with us as in the Live Performance family.  It is in the depth of our grief, as students and lecturers alike, that we have to come to know and feel his loss so keenly.

May His Soul Rest in Peace
