AFDA Cape Town alumna Jinna Mutune is a native of Kenya, a film producer and director. She is a multi-cultural film-maker passionate about telling different Kenyan, African stories to a global audience aside from the stereotypical stories of war, poverty and famine. She has directed and produced films music videos and theatrical plays both America and Africa.

She is the founder of PEGG ENT. the company behind “LEO”(10 global cities and 5 airlines) a well-crafted film that depicts an insightful, positive view of life in Kenya as seen through the eyes of a Massai boy who wants to be a superhero and live out his dreams in his Homeland. The cinematographer behind LEO is Abe Martinez, a Hollywood Cinematographer who has shot Hollywood Blockbusters such as Spiderman, Ali & Hancock.

Jinna’s has produced work for major global brands such as Coca-Cola and her work has been acquired by key broadcasting agents such as AFRICA MAGIC (MNET) , EMIRATES & MTV (AMERICA) . She has also screened her work in major film festival around the world.

Her story has been featured on Local dailies, (Nation, Standard, True-Love) Media stations (Nation TV, KTN) and international media houses.

Jinna, majored in film as a director, writer and producer at AFDA Cape Town, South Africa, and completed her internship at Rifkin and Ebert’s, a film company in Santa Monica, California.

In inspiring the next generation of film makers and entrepreneurs, Jinna has conducted several speaking engagements for UNESCO, USIU, AKILI DADA (Women Forum) Infinite Possibilities Business Forum (MODE) and recently CANON-UK workshop in Kenya.

She has directed the Music Video for the Kenyan Official Olympic score 2012. She has directed a 7min infomercial with Graca Machel encouraging Kenyans to stay peaceful.

Jinna drew attention to the plight of young people in one of the largest slums in Kenya – Dandora through a documentary she directed and produced called Eastland’s Gold.

Jinna’s work been screened in a number of film festivals all over the world, including; The Clermont Film Festival (France, 2005). The Zanzibar Film Festival (Zanzibar, 2005). The Real Life Film Festival (Melbourne, 2006).

She has directed a number of music videos, with the most distinguished being the “Mashairi” music video for Ukoo Flani Artists (East Africa). This music video was produced to honor Kenyan writers in the 70’s and 80’s whose penmanship fought against the old government regime through conscious writing. This music video was extensively featured in the “A” playlist on MTV Base (Africa) and earned airtime on the MTV channel in the United States.
