AFDA alumnus Thapelo Mokoena is an actor, producer, MC, filmmaker, distributor, and presenter most known in South African households as the presenter of the debut season of South Africa's version of Fear Factor. 

Thapelo was born under a Mkhamba tree in the town of Ladysmith in Kwa Zulu Natal Province. After completing his studies at Ladysmith High School, Thapelo relocated to Johannesburg to study a degree course in accounting. He fortunately later changed his mind and chose to study filmmaking at AFDA. Soon after graduating from AFDA, Thapelo landed the role of Gabriel in SABC1 soap opera, Generations. In 2006, he started playing the role of Vusi in the SABC1 drama, Mzansi. The same year, he became the presenter of Fear Factor in South Africa. In 2010, he became the presenter of Rize Mzansi, a reality television show that aired on SABC1. Thapelo then featured in the sixth season of Strictly Come Dancing in 2013. The following year, he hosted the reality series, Sinawe 72, on e.tv.

He also created Air Movie Nights, a company that provides outdoor cinema events in both rural and urban areas. Recently, Thapelo worked with Bosman Family Vineyards to produce Nero, a wine that is commonly known as the Thapelo Mokoena wine.
