AFDA alumnus, director, writer, producer and entrepreneur, Jozua Malherbe has just completed his latest feature film “Griekwastad”, which he directed and shot, starring Arnold Vosloo in his first Afrikaans role in 30 years. His most recent feature film as producer, “I Am All Girls”, directed by Donovan Marsh will be released in the US in Jan 202 and he was also part of the writing team on the Deon Meyer mini-series for HBO “Trackers” which will air on Mnet from the 27 October 2019.

Jozua’s career in the entertainment industry kicked off directly after completing his BA (cum-Laude) in Motion Picture Medium at AFDA in 2004 working on his first major project in 2005 as a 1st assistant director on Sharlto Copley’s debut film “Spoon”.

In 2011 that Jozua got his first big break, directing his first feature. “Wolwedans in die Skemer”. The distributors were amazed at the box office takings of R6,2 million “Wolwedans” achieved on just 38 screens country wide.

His passion for storytelling, innovation and craft has led him to produce, direct and shoot successful and often award winning prime time television dramas including “Fluiters” (2016), “Bloedbroers” (2015) “Swartwater” (2014) and “Donkerland” (2013).  He also won the coveted SAFTA award for “Swartwater”.

Returning to producing after a five year hiatus where he focussed on directing, he has produced two short films of which the latest, "Flesh of my Flesh" won best film, director, actor and screenplay at the 2016 Silwerskerm Film Festival in Cape Town as well as being part of the official selection at the Nashville International Film Festival, Cleveland International, Cannes Short Film Corner and Hollyshorts in L.A.

Jozua also co-founded the production company Make Stuff Machine with fellow alumna Lucia Meyer-Marais in 2016.
